This park is also a great location for concerts, events, and other community activities. The park is operated by the Sugar House Park Authority, which is a nonprofit corporation. The board of authority meets 10 times a year to set policy and handle special requests.

Sugar House Park is an incredible place to picnic with family and friends. It has a lake with beautiful views, a walking path around the perimeter, playgrounds, fields, and courts. The area is perfect for spending the day enjoying a well-rounded picnic of soups, sandwiches, and salads. It’s also a great place to catch some sun with a good book and enjoy the scenic views of the mountains surrounding the park.

This lovely city park was once a state penitentiary. Brigham Young selected the location in October 1853 for the site of the state’s first prison, which had 16 cells. Young chose this spot because it was six miles from downtown Salt Lake and provided a safe distance between the prisoners and the community.

Today, Sugar House is home to bungalow houses, parks, and tree-lined streets. It’s a neighborhood of mostly liberal, yuppie-types who drive their Subaru wagons to Whole Foods to buy overpriced organic goodies.
