Liberty Park

Liberty Park

Salt Lake City’s second-largest park is a bustling locale that features unique attractions. Among its top destinations are the Tracy Aviary and Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Art.

A popular way to see all the park has to offer is by taking a stroll along the Liberty Park Loop. This paved path traces the park’s perimeter. See more.

Things to Do in Liberty Park

As far as parks go, Liberty Park has a little bit of something for everyone. You can stroll at your own pace or challenge yourself to a game of tennis or basketball. If you have kids in tow, check out the Rotary Play Park which is huge and entertaining for all ages. Avid bird-watchers can check out Tracy Aviary which is one of the largest and oldest free-standing aviaries in the country.

People watching can be found in abundance here too – just look for the noble LARP-ers, the slack-liners, or the never-ending drum circle. And if all this activity is making you hungry, the proximity of Liberty Park to 700 E makes it close to a lot of our favorite food spots in central SLC. Tradition, Manoli’s, and The Park Cafe are all within almost literal spitting distance from Liberty Park. That’s the kind of convenience we can get behind. Especially when it involves fried green tomatoes and funeral potatoes!

The park also hosts many different events throughout the year. For example, during the summer, the Park hosts a drum circle on Sundays, which is fun for people of all ages. Other popular activities include hiking, jogging, biking, and playing sports.

Another great thing about Liberty Park is that it has a variety of restaurants to choose from. You can get a delicious meal at Channon Thai or have some American steak at Ruby River. There is also the Central 9th neighborhood just a block away, which has some of our favorite patios for people-watching! Discover More about Murray here.

Restaurants in Liberty Park

In this quaint part of town, there’s no shortage of restaurants that are talked about, Instagrammed, and frequented by locals. Red Iguana, Takashi, and Pretty Bird Chicken are all beloved, but some hidden gems deserve your attention too.

Start at Varley, a cocktail bar that serves food that can stand up to their drinks like the Tombstone gin, Campari, and grapefruit juice or the sweet potato soup. Then move to the quaint 15th & 15th eatery for some Middle Eastern fare. You’ll want to share the hummus, baba ghanoush, and muhammara and splurge on some heartier dishes like the lamb shank braised in ginger and fenugreek and served with saffron-scented couscous.

Tradition is a cozy neighborhood restaurant that’s as local as you can get. Grab a seat at the diner-style counter or snag a table with friends. The menu leans southern and layers Utah cuisine with comfort classics like collard greens, cauliflower korma, and chicken and dumplings.
